16 Channel SAM
Summing Analog Mixer

Inspired by the monitor section in the older super-sounding Neve consoles, this analog-summing mixer remains true to those roots. This device’s balanced symmetrical signal path is sonically transparent and intended for analog summing of multichannel digital program material. The sound you achieve is totally up to you and your preamps.

The Mister Patchbay SAM has eight stereo pairs for line-level stereo stem mixes. The easiest way to create stereo stems with your DAW is to use two mix busses with one panned hard-left and the other panned right. Then assign any channel to those two busses and use your channel’s pan knob to put the sound into the stereo field. Then send your stem mixes to the SAM.

The use of XLR connectors on this product makes it very easy to first send your stereo stems to your 500 rack or other outboard devices such as EQ, limiters and compressors before patching into the summing mixer.
The output of this device is a 150 ohm balanced mic-level sent out via two male XLR’s. Using the stereo mic-level output on the SAM you now run the mix thru your choice of Microphone Preamps acquiring the tonal character of those products.

My SAM has no mutes, pan knobs or fancy lights. Please put your ears on it! This unit will take the Pepsi Challenge against those $1500.00 summing boxes any day. After all… How much do you want to spend on some LEDs and switches?

A good comparison is my SAM for $300.00 vs. the Folcrom at $775.00. Yes the Folcrom has mute switches but, are those worth $475.00?

Price $300.

I build the SAM using 24 channel XLR panels because they are less costly than having custom 18 channel XLR panels made. This savings I pass on to you. The plus is you get six XLR-F channels on the right-side of the XLR-M Outputs to do whatever you want with.
